After we hit stop on the recording of the first podcast episode, Seryn and I found ourselves in a lengthy and candid conversation. For over an hour, we discussed the similarities and differences between chronic disease and mental ill-health. It quickly became clear that we had much more to say, so we arranged to meet again to record a second episode.
This podcast episode was one of the hardest, yet most important conversations, I've ever been a part of. Seryn and I discuss the realities of mental distress and suicide ideation. In light of this, before listening to this episode, please check-in with yourself and consider the appropriateness of the conversation for where you are at.
This episode was unstructured and recorded in real-time and reflects Seryn’s experience with her mental health journey and my experience living with a chronic condition. It is a reflection of our personal journeys and the lessons we have learned along the way. Our experiences have provided us with personal insight. However, this discussion is not intended to replace professional support and care. If you are in distress or experiencing suicidal thoughts, please reach out to a trusted individual and seek help from a dedicated support service.
These raw conversations are not easy. Seryn, thank you for your vulnerability and for all that you’re doing with your podcast to raise awareness of mental health.
